How do I landscape my house?

In our professional opinion, the best way to landscape your house is very similar to how you would design home plans. We like to think of the landscape in types of rooms like your home. Examples would be:

1) Living or common areas like family room and foyer

2) Private areas like bedrooms or bathrooms

3) Working areas like a kitchen or laundry

4) Playing areas like a game room

5) Storage areas like a garage or closet

Now, with that said, we believe that the best landscapes make the home feel as though it has been dropped in to the landscape, rather than the landscape wrapped around the home.

The flow of the design from "room to room", much like that of our home, is what makes the design feel seemless and natural.

We also want to use the landscape to highlight, frame and balance certain areas. For instance, if the home seems "heavy" built to one side or the other, picture a large roof line on one side and a small garage on the other, we can use large trees on the small side to help balance. Or we might uses a live archway to frame a path to another "room" in the landscape.

Other considerations in the landscape not usually thought of may involve textures of plant material, colors, shades, leaf size, blooms, greenery, plants for back drops, evergreen vs deciduous, winter vs summer highlights and many more.

At Sean Mclean Landscaping we offer free consultations. We also provide free landscape and irrigation designs to our customers. Or if you'd like us to just design you a plan, we can do that for a small fee. 386-466-8269
